Sleepwalking
03:11

|

You feed me sleeping pills while you’re numbing my chest,
slowly tracing my heart injecting casual sex.
And once the monitor beeps and I am under duress,
you sooth my body with your body like a temptress.
I am paralyzed. I’m a moth to your flame.
It comes as no surprise that I can barely stutter your name
Sweat and cold from your touch, every night it’s the same
While we’re kissing, something’s missing. You just dug the knife in.
(OH!)
I want it back--that love you stole from me
Sleepwalking in the hallways, and I’m missing you like always
(OH!)
I want us back the way we used to be.
Like the pictures in the hallways, sleepwalking with you always
Stop starting me up, only to power me down.
Your most complacent machine’s the new sheriff in town
Now the prey’s in pursuit and I’m praying aloud
that I’ll be steady getting ready for the showdown.
I see fear in your eyes. You’ve my heart in your hand
If I could take it, you’d be finished, but I’m only a man.
My triumphant return, but I’ve nowhere to land
now I’m thinking that I’m sinking and we’re starting over.
(OH!)
I want it back--that love you stole from me
Sleepwalking in the hallways, and I’m missing you like always
(OH!)
I want us back the way we used to be.
Like the pictures in the hallways, sleepwalking with you
(OH!)
I want it back--that love you stole from me
Sleepwalking in the hallways, and I’m missing you like always
(OH!)
I want us back the way we used to be.
Like the pictures in the hallways, sleepwalking with you always

The Afterlife

Love me when the river ends, when the water bends past the shore.
Leave me when I fear the most, when we’re holy ghosts free form.
You said “love is never dead, Love.”
While we’re laying six feet down, it’s far too late to tell you how I feel, Love.
But I still feel love.
After this life I’ll make it up to you.
Colleagues sought a safer course, but we wanted more for Man.
Downstream, are we scientists, troubled moralists, or sand?
You said “love is never dead, Love.”
While we’re laying six feet down, it’s far too late to tell them how I feel, Love.
But I still feel love.
After this life I’ll make it up to you.
You said “love is never dead, Love.”
Though the world’s in peaceful slumber, I believe we’re unencumbered by love we’re denied of.
After this life I’ll make it up to you.

Hanging
04:15
|
|
||
People used to go to the center of the town.
That’s where they gathered their news from each other.
A man was hanged that day for a crime they did not say.
He was no longer valued.
He swung there, hanging.
Throngs of people shouting out in a place that’s faced with change
Uncertainty is partnered with fear and anger.
But the students still walk through the mob, and they grow up faster than they want.
For years to come, we’ll hear their wise and troubling words above us, hanging.
So, as I’m tucked in to my bed, I am unaware of the man who I will later meet who sleeps in the cold.
And still the world we’re living in is one where skin induces sin.
And many lose but some will win, but in the end we’re all left hanging.
